Bath City Doughnut Learning Group: See the Big Picture (Past)

How could all our local wants and needs be met, if creatively and collaboratively designed in a DE?

Session 3/9

"The best things in life are free
But you can keep them for the birds and bees
Now give me money
That's what I want."
sang The Flying Lizards in 1979 (and many, many others before and since, in the numerous covers of Barrett Strong's 1959 original).

They were mocking the idea that money was the best way to meet our wants and needs; that what couldn't be bought wasn't worth mentioning - a hot political topic at the time.

Certainly echoed in Raworth’s reference to 1700s economist Adam Smith and the generosity of his elderly mother, who housed, clothed, cooked and cared for him as he wrote up his still-influential economic theory, yet whose unpaid economic contribution was never factored into it.

Money's in the mix, of course. But it’s not everything. Let's carve a little time together to highlight all sorts of interesting ways our wants and needs could be met, if more creatively and collaboratively designed within Doughnut parameters. And, of course, what that might look like in Bath.

Usual scenario: grab a drink and head upstairs. Bring a pen, and a notebook to lean on in case we're squeezed. Newbies welcome, and please RSVP if you can (mainly so I don't under/overestimate materials).

And if you're staying for the wonderful People Planet Pint straight afterwards, please register here: https://lnkd.in/ekV-bVuE
