Please Note: This event has now finished and can no longer be joined.
Welcome to the latest Doughnut Research-for-Action seminar, entitled Resilience and the Doughnut, with Merav Cohen, convened by Doughnut Economics Action Lab.
📅 Tuesday, February 24, 2:00-3:00 PM (UK time)
Session Summary
What makes a complex social-ecological system resilient? In this seminar, co-hosted by Merav Cohen and Andrew Fanning, we will introduce key principles of resilience theory and share examples of research that seeks to integrate resilience science with the Doughnut. These brief reflections will set the stage for a facilitated community discussion. We will explore how these two schools of thought might inform one another, and what this integration means for our future practice. Participants will be invited to think together about how resilience attributes can practically strengthen the safe and just space for humanity. Join us to help shape this evolving dialogue.

I work in financial software development. Agile software development is a haven for the neurodiverse. Finance suits my interests in mathematics and economics, and my need for complex problems to solve. My activist background was in single-issue campaigns in the 1980s-90s that aimed to change public opinion, such as the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament and the Anti-Apartheid Movement. Since then, humanity's primary self-inflicted existential threat moved from nuclear war to the climate emergency. While existential threats are always the priority, I believe that within capitalism all progressive changes are at risk of being rolled back, and lasting change can only be assured within a democratic economy. I'm keen to work with others on new ideas for expanding the democratic economy.
