Is it possible to create an economic system which does not produce ecological collapse, genocide and obscene wealth inequality? We are often told that human nature is flawed, and capitalism is the only ‘realistic’ option. Alternatives to the greed-based current system do exist, however, and one of them is ‘doughnut economics’.
Doughnut Economics is a framework which proposes something revolutionary – actually meeting all human needs without destroying the planet (!). This idea is known as living within a safe and just space for humanity. The safe and just space is one where all basic human needs (i.e. water, housing, justice, political participation, etc.) are met without compromising the stability of the Earth’s ecosystems (the ecological ceiling).
Fundamentally, doughnut economics is about a shift in values and mindset, and is based on values such as care, cooperation, equity, diversity, reciprocity, and joined-up thinking. If you are interested in creativity and change-making, join this fun and participatory workshop to explore these ideas through song and discussion. Singing is an excellent way to involve body, heart, and mind in exploring ideas around diversity, cooperation, interconnection and more.
Doughnut Economics is celebrated during Global Donut Days, which will take place from October 14-17, 2025.
