Tony Farnum
I was born in British Guiana, now Guyana, South America and have lived in and worked across 6 continents for over 40 years mostly looking to help countries build and sustain inclusive nation with equality of representation and wealth distribution for all citizens through strengthening political and fiscal governance systems.
Despite being one of the least populated countries in the world, with still pristine forests and spectacular rivers, creeks, and waterfalls, this land of many waters, this Guyana, has the highest per capita rate of emigration in the world because of intractable tribal divisions inherited from colonial times. I believe that we all suffer from a form of PTSD out of the colonial experience which does not allow us to find sufficient room for an inclusive national discussion especially post-independence.
I returned to Guyana as I promised some elders a long time ago to lend my voice and experience to other likeminded Guyanese and Friends of Guyana who are committed to transforming Guyana to a sustainable and inclusive nation at peace with itself. Something that will be difficult to achieve with such an extreme rate of emigration.
One with developmental plans that are focussed and formed through respectful broad-based participation across all of our peoples which, like those of our First Peoples, are in harmony with our environment.
