I worked in systems. GDP based. It broke me. But hope cannot be taken, it must be given freely. I try and inspire change. It isn't easy but I have to keep going, broken or not. Because broken humble hands can feed a few, but those few become many when kindness and love is shared. The planet, and all that is living cannot survive the current, the status quo so WE change it.

I'm a problem solver and a dreamer. I studied biology at university driven by a fascination to understand the world around me. I became interested in the genetic and biochemical factors underlying important societal challenges like plant disease and food security. My PhD drove me away from the unsustainable environment of research. I've since worked in research funding, large engineering companies and small tech startups. I've taken some time out of work to work out how I can better apply myself to a more fulfilling mission. I'm curious to learn and experiment.

My name is Ann-Kathrin Bernauer, I study sustainability management (M.Sc.) at University of Wuppertal, Germany. Currently, I am writing my master’s thesis, which covers social factors of mobility. I am looking for new opportunities as a changemaker. There is a lot of research making clear that greenhouse gas emissions need to be reduced in the transportation sector in order to limit global warming of 1.5 °C above pre-industrial level. It exists less research regarding social factors in this context. I would like to analyse social impacts on a walking and cycling focused transportation strategy in urban areas (e.g. Copenhagen, Amsterdam). This, I am analysing from the perspective of the doughnut.
