I wrote Doughnut Economics as the book that I wished I could have read when I was an economics student at university. It had far more traction than I could of imagined so I spent two years giving talks about it. Then I thought, OK, enough talk: who actually wants to do this? Because every day I was getting messages from teachers, community makers, city planners, entrepreneurs, civil servants - all of whom were starting to turn the ideas of Doughnut Economics into practice. I'm a big believer in the power of peer-to-peer inspiration. So often, the most inspiring person is someone like yourself - a fellow teacher, or mayor, or community leader - who is already doing that thing that you thought was impossible. So I cannot wait to see what happens in this community. Here's to the change-makers who just start doing it. Let's co-create the tools for a regenerative and distributive future. Let's share our stories of what we did and how - because that is what will inspire us all.

Hello there 👋 I'm the Digital Platform Lead here at DEAL, which means I lead the design, development and management of this website, the DEAL Community Platform. My professional background is in game development as a programmer. I'm interested in using play to help people explore important and complex topics. I'm also a freelance writer covering the games industry, technology and climate change I've been involved in the fossil fuel divestment movement as a campaigner, combining the need for climate action with tangible steps towards a more regenerative economic system. I also helped found the game workers branch of the IWGB - the UK's first trade union dedicated to empowering and improving the rights of workers in the games industry.

I held my first Doughnut Economics talk in January, with support from Oxfordshire Doughnut Economics Collective, in Bampton Library. We are having a follow-on meeting later this week (February 13). In the first meeting we completed the 'Unrolling the Doughnut' activity which generated lots of ideas. The purpose of this next meeting is to see how we can action these ideas and set up our local group. I am excited to be a part of this growing collective and feel the model offers a practical and effective way to monitor what we do, why we do it and what impact we are having.
