It made headlines around the world when Amsterdam, in 2019, decided to integrate the Doughnut Economy into the city’s Circular Economy strategy.

Together with its citizens, the city set out to adapt this new economic framework to local conditions in
Amsterdam. Hear how it’s gone as PhD and anthropologist Line Kvartborg Vestergaard will present the main points from her dissertation: “Towards an Alternative Economy: Doughnut Economies in Practice and the Affective Dynamics of Change in Amsterdam.”

She’ll also discuss “institutional activism” within the civil service and ambitions and untapped
potential for transformation in municipalities.

After the presentation, we’ll ask the question: What can Aarhus learn from this?
