GLOBAL DOUGHNUT DAYS 2026 – KIGALI
Shape Tomorrow: The Youth Voice
Youth voices on striving for a safe and equitable world: the value and responsibility of every individual in building their country within a sustainable framework.
About the event
You are invited to join us at Kigali Paramount Hotel. Young people, educators, professionals, creatives, researchers and changemakers will come together to explore how each of us can help build a safe, fair and sustainable future, using the ideas of Doughnut Economics.
Global Doughnut Days is a worldwide moment for communities and changemakers to learn, share ideas, hold meaningful conversations and explore practical ways of creating a future where people can thrive within the limits of our planet. Shape Tomorrow is Kigali's contribution to that global conversation.
How the event relates to Doughnut Economics
Doughnut Economics offers a simple picture of a thriving economy: a ring-shaped "safe and just space for humanity".
- The inner edge is the social foundation. It covers the essentials no one should fall short of, including food, water, health, education, decent work, equality and having a voice.
- The outer edge is the ecological ceiling. It marks the planetary limits we must not overshoot, such as climate change, biodiversity loss and pollution.
Our conversation focuses on the voice in the social foundation. Young people are not only beneficiaries of development. They are citizens, innovators, creators, entrepreneurs, professionals and decision-makers. If Rwanda and the wider region are to thrive inside the Doughnut, young people need to help shape the policies and solutions that get us there.
We will ask one central question: What kind of country do young people want to build, and what responsibility does each of us have in creating it?
Along the way we will reflect on:
- livelihoods and decent work
- education and equality
- environmental sustainability and responsible consumption
- innovation and community wellbeing
- the role of young people in shaping policy
