Join us as Grøn Bio and Doughnut Economy Aarhus debunk the myth of growth as a “necessary” path to well-being and invite you to a conversation about power, powerlessness, and the power of action with Ph.D. and sustainability psychologist, Simon Elsborg Nygaard.
The setting is the beautiful and entertaining Icelandic feel-good film “Woman at War,” about Halla, an indomitable choir director and music teacher who declares war on the industry and the politicians threatening to destroy her country.
As a prelude to the film, we’ll offer a brief introduction to Doughnut Economics. We also introduce the dilemma / conflict in the movie seen from an economic perspective between growth as a “necessary” tool to keep developing wealth and wellbeing - and the uncomfortable fact that we have exceeded 7 out of 9 planetary boundaries and are in the process of altering the living conditions that we humans have enjoyed on Earth for thousands of years.
After the film, there will be a discussion on stage with sustainability psychologist Simon Elsborg Nygaard. Drawing on sustainability psychology, he has researched how we can enable good lives within the planetary boundaries. We can look forward to an exciting conversation about the experience of power and powerlessness. What does the experience of powerlessness do to us? How can the experience of taking action serve as a counterbalance to powerlessness? And how can we move toward the change that is so desperately needed? There will be an opportunity for the audience to ask questions.
