Welcome to the latest Doughnut Research-for-Action seminar, entitled What role for tourism in the Doughnut?, co-hosted with Neus Crous Costa and convened by Doughnut Economics Action Lab.

📅 Tuesday, October 13, 1:00-2:00 PM (UK time)

Session Summary

Tourism has an extractive reputation among many postgrowth scholar-activists, yet it is also a relational practice: a context for enlightenment and reciprocity that many have experienced firsthand. Tourism can foster connection and love for the world, particularly when it is decoupled from the interests of profit and accumulation. This reflects lived experience: when tourism serves the public interest, people often defend it; yet when it serves capital, communities rise against it. This session offers an invitation to explore an urgent political question together: can we rethink the governance and management of tourism so that it is ecologically safe and accessible for all?
