Welcome to the latest Doughnut Research-for-Action seminar, entitled Measuring inflation with a Doughnut Price Index, with Sebastian Elwell, convened by Doughnut Economics Action Lab.

📅 Wednesday, April 15, 12:00-1:00 PM (UK time)

Session Summary

Like GDP, the main tool that governments use to track inflation - the Consumer Price Index (CPI) - is a financial metric that has become an entrenched policy target, yet it receives relatively little attention in post-growth economics. In this seminar, Seb Elwell will discuss shortcomings with CPI, and introduce a ‘Doughnut Price Index (DPI)’ concept proposal to measure changes in the costs of living well within planetary boundaries, rather than changes in average consumer spending. There will be space for an open discussion on next steps for the DPI concept/methods and other insights on post-growth measures of inflation.
