We are happy to present the launch of Feline Tecklenburg's book Das Wir in Wirtschaft (Aufbau Verlag). She argues that care work is the invisible foundation of our economy, and that the economy only becomes future-proof once this work is valued. This is close to our own approach of Doughnut Economics where care work is central to the social foundation, since it sustains health, education, and community. In our work we both bring unspoken economic beliefs into view and offer new narratives in their place. We challenge who counts as "the economy" (the Wir is those who care, not just corporate boards). Care and gender justice give a concrete answer to the question about the essence of economy.
Journalist and host Mareice Kaiser will lead the evening's conversation with Feline Tecklenburg and Susanne Brückner, editor at Aufbau Verlag. BuchHafen Berlin will set up a book table at which The Weconomy will be available.
The evening is for everyone who feels intimidated by the word "economy", since it reframes burnout or old-age poverty as the result of political choices rather than personal failure. These political choices can, and must be, changed. We invite our network to discuss with us over drinks and snacks after the launch how we can bring care and justice perspectives into economic debates.
We could not imagine a better venue than Spore Initiative to host the event. Spore is a cultural initiative dedicated to ecological regeneration, community participation, and knowledge exchange.
Through long-term partnerships in the Global Majority and a cultural and educational hub in Berlin, Spore connects diverse contexts where cultural, ecological, and social knowledge meet.
