Thriving Within Limits: A Greater Manchester Doughnut Workshop
A two-hour workshop to kick off a Data Portrait of Greater Manchester!
Posted by Transform:GM
What would it take for everyone in Greater Manchester to thrive in balance with the living planet?
That is the question we will explore to celebrate Global Donut Days 2026 in this two-hour workshop in Manchester City Centre on Thursday 22nd October.
Come and join us at this in-person event where we will be asking how everyone can have that they need to live well whilst keeping within the ecological limits that keep our planet healthy.
Over two hours, we will:
Have a short introduction to Doughnut Economics and its four lenses (social local, local ecological, global social and global ecological).
Look at a snapshot of what Greater Manchester already knows about its social and environmental conditions and existing ambitions
Work in small groups on real local challenges
Identify possible indicators, existing data, research gaps and people who could contribute
Our four themes are:
Warm, affordable healthy homes
Fair access to low-carbon mobility
Nature, health and climate resilience
Good food and a fair consumption footprint
What you will leave with:
A clearer understanding of Doughnut Economics in a Greater Manchester context
A chance to contribute to the first shape of the Data Portrait
A better sense of what we know, what we do not yet know and what is worth measuring
Connections with people across sustainability, research, public services, business and communities
A way to get involved in the next phase of the initiative
If you care about where we live and want to help shape what comes next, please register and bring your perspective.
This is a two-hour, hands-on workshop for Global Donut Days 2026 and will include a short introduction to Doughnut Economics. We will then work in small groups on real local challenges.
