The global financial system is invisible but powerful. Join us for an evening with Ann Pettifor, who will talk about her new book The Global Cassino, and unpack how the unregulated nature of our global financial system shapes our lives and our planet.

The role of the financial system remains poorly understood, but has a huge impact on the cost of essentials like food, energy and housing, as well as driving inequality and ecological harm.

Together we will learn more about these issues and explore what we can do as a movement of individuals and church communities, to help shape a financial system that is greener and fairer.

About Ann Pettifor:
Ann Pettifor is an international political economist best known for predicting the Global Financial Crisis of 2007-9 with her book: The Coming First World Debt Crisis. She is the author of The Global Casino, The Case for the Green New Deal and The Production of Money.

She is a member of the Scottish government’s Just Transition Commission.

Her book, The Global Casino: How Wall St Gambles with People and the Planet (2026) sets out to turn readers’ attention to the invisible, but powerful global financial system. She argues that the activities of speculators within the system remain largely hidden but are hugely impactful on both our ecosystem and our cost-of-living: – the prices of our daily bread, pensions, energy and housing.
