Doughnut Economics About DEAL News & Updates Meet the DEAL Team Careers FAQ Wider Movement Contact UsI graduated from Cambridge University in 1989 with a degree in veterinary medicine. After two years in farm animal practice I gained a masters in Veterinary Epidemiology and worked for the UK Department for International Development on a livestock development project in Kenya, followed by a PhD at Bristol Veterinary School. I have been employed at the Centre for Environment, Fisheries and Aquaculture Science (Cefas) -a UK government science agency - since 2001, leading development of epidemiology and risk disciplines. I am a former president of the Society for Veterinary Epidemiology and Economics (SVEPM) and was vice-president of the WOAH Aquatic Animal Health Standards Commission between 2015-21. In 2020 I was awarded an honorary professorship at the University of Liverpool in Epidemiology and Population Health. I have become increasingly interested in the economics and sustainability of aquaculture and the impact of disease.
