I completed my university education in China on the cusp of its transition from a centrally controlled system to a market oriented economy. I gained my further training in economics in the UK.
I had worked in the field of development economics before taking an early retirement. My work has focused on policy research using data from a wide range of developing countries, including China, Bangladesh and Ethiopia. The key topics include inequality (income and gender), intergenerational social mobility, determination of health outcomes and environmental sustainability
