My name is Kalina Fonseca. I am originally from Ecuador, but now I live in Giessen, Germany, where I am pursuing my PhD in water resource management with an emphasis on nature-based solutions.
Since 2016, I have been working with local Andean communities facing water pollution affecting irrigation and drinking water. Due to a lack of financial resources, these communities cannot access conventional water treatment methods. In this context, I have been working on implementing nature-based solutions as cost-effective alternatives to improve water quality and ensure water security for both present and future generations.
