I am an assistant professor in ecological economics and political ecology at the University of Barcelona, and associate researcher at ICTA UAB. I have contributed to an ecological and cultural critique of (sustainable) development, and the search for alternatives to it. The proposal that I have explored more in depth is ‘degrowth’, the hypothesis that we can live well, with less. Degrowth is an attempt to re-politicise debates about desired socio-environmental futures. I co-edited “Degrowth: A Vocabulary for a New Era” (with G. Kallis & G. D’Alisa; translated into 10 languages) and “Pluriverse: A Post-Development Dictionary” (with A. Kothari, A. Escobar, A. Salleh & A. Acosta) an exciting volume of over 100 essays on transformative alternatives to globalized development. My last book is “The case for degrowth” (with G. Kallis, S. Paulson & G. D’Alisa) where we address the question of 'how to'. Find all my publications freely downloadable here: https://uab.academia.edu/FedericoDemaria
