I am a senior local authority leader looking to develop ideas towards a more sustainable way of delivering services.  I oversee a range of services: education, care, housing, culture and leisure, waste, roafs, parks, property and economic development. I have a background in education and have published a guide for young people on global issues.

I have recently retired from the World Bank where I held Regional and Global Director positions in the areas of water resources management, water utility reform, climate resilience, food systems and food security, agriculture and irrigation, environmental management, social inclusion, and urban development in virtually all regions of the globe.  My recent area of focus, within the broader context of environmental and economic development, has been the practical transition from a parasitic to a mutualistic development paradigm, with an emphasis on operationalizing the circular economy through policy, technology and financial innovation and strategy development. Particular areas of interest and experience include water-scarce cities, governance and institutional reforms in irrigated agriculture, food security and social inclusion, and the interface of private and public solutions to public goods challenges. My publications include several World Bank reports on issues of microfinance, agricultural finance, and natural resources policy, as well as co-authored journal articles and book chapters on similar topics.

I am a retired mental health social worker, mother and grandmother. I've no training in Economics but for many, many years have felt the capitalist system we have is morally wrong, for these reasons: it puts profit before the quality or usefulness of the product; it promotes social inequality; it promotes consumerism which requires dangerous exploitation of the natural world, other societies and workers. I believe we need degrowth, not economic growth/increasing our GDP. I believe in "the joy of frugality" (which I've written very briefly about.) When I've heard Kate Raworth speak - at an Extinction Rebellion event - and also in conversation with Caroline Lucas, I immediately felt it made such good sense, and I'd like to learn more about it, and about how to support its adoption by the mainstream!

Just like so many people, I want to (very modestly) contribute to understanding how we can transition to a sustainable system centred on solidarity. Back in London, I grew tired of hearing about eternal growth, and how social impact and profits can thrive together as long without any deeper reflection about the values underpinning our economy.  This is why I decided to join this community! :)
