I have a background in social activism and have been looking for a meta-level cause that cascades down through all other levels of worthy causes. Doughnut Economics is the most aligned vision I've found in regards to leading the planet in a sustainable direction. I'm in the process of trying to organize a local network in Maui to start integrating the model locally.

I help organizations and communities develop strategies, systems and cultures to be inclusive, innovative and impactful. I do this by providing consulting services, coaching and engaging, creative and transformative learning experiences where people feel cared for, trusted, highly motivated and able to bring their best self to work. I'm also doing a PhD through the Nova Scotia Inter-University Educational Studies Doctoral program which includes Mount Saint Vincent University, St. Francis Xavier University and Acadia University. My research interests are informed by my own lived experience with mental illness. They include: inclusive economic development, social enterprise development, community development in general, social movement learning and meditative inquiry as an approach to learning in community.

I am an academic researcher with broad experience in clinical trials for development of devices, drugs, and biologics targeting indications in paralysis due to spinal cord disorder. This this high-throughput realm of neurotechnologies, and I'm juuust a bit concerned about our obligate contribution to the outside of the doughnut. But we're "saving people", right? And then helping them achieve a life well lived in the context of their altered abilities. That's the inside of the doughnut, isn't it? My situation is not special, but part and parcel modernity's double-bind, these perennial "multipolar traps" inherent to the worldview that most of us are forced to ingress simply in order to participate in the time and place we were born into. I do find my situation to be an opportunity, however, and thus strive to realize the role that disability will play in shaping our post-anthropic futures.
