I am a social practice artist based in Bristol in the UK. In 2020 I was a part of an 'Artists Make Change' group looking at the importance and challenges of artists in relation to the economic doughnut. The main premise was the importance of Art, Culture and Creativity as a social foundation and its power in developing ideas, thoughts, behaviour changes and so much more. From this research many notes were collected. I like visual outcomes so one of my lockdown projects was producing a graphic that encompassed much of what we discussed in an open way that could inspire thought in others. Commonly known as the Art Doughnut it is a large complex graphic and so is not very screen friendly. However you can view it here and fall in on a word/phrase or 2 that you will hopefully find motivating. I am now working with Dr Cara Courage to try and extend the ethos of the Art Doughnut so if you have any ideas please do get in touch. We are especially interested in developing a web friendly version ( probably an animation), so any funding ideas for this would be very welcome. If you would like to see a bit more about Social Art Projects you can visit a notebook website that I put together while researching projects in the USA. Besides links to projects there are many interesting articles on the blog. This was one successful and uplifting project I visited. Assembly, an arts program run by the non-profit organization Recess that’s an alternative to incarceration.

The foundation of my work is embedded in biomimicry, food systems and nature-inspired design. Everywhere in my practice, I look to provide solutions to tackle the climate emergency creatively. I am based in Sweden and Italy, and hold a PhD in Architecture & Artistic Research from Chalmers University ('Wild Poethics' 2017). I lecture and teach at numerous Swedish Universities, but also in Italy. I am an Affiliated Senior Lecturer at Konstfack University on Stockholm where I am responsible infusing sustainability into the institute’s education. Also, as co-founder of Nordic Biomimicry, I direct the center that dedicates itself to collaborate with nature as a mentor, measure and method. In my practice, I am a mediator of sustainability, both by situating myself between academia, research, and companies and as an editor of an art-book press called Vegetable Lamb Press. To further underpin my service to ’nature’, I am a beekeeper and take care of a biodynamic vineyard and olive grove.

Shibaura House is a community space in the Tokyo district of Shibaura, a neighborhood in the south of the city near the port. In 2022, we set about to create a 'City Portrait' of Minato City, our neighborhood, with a desire to relook, and to understand what is truly happening in people's lives. Things have drastically changed due to Covid-19, and there was an urgency to reconnect with people who come to work, build a family, and play in the area. We saw Doughnut Economics as a great tool to do this, as it allowed us not only to analyze what is occurring in front of us, but also to think in multifaceted terms. Through this journey, we have manifested our 'City Portrait' in the form of an exhibition, which you can see recorded in the report on the DEAL website. We are currently in the process of transforming the 'City Portrait' into an action plan. We are doing this with several strands: collaboration with an artist who would use our resources, acquired knowledge, and contacts as a basis for her work. Collaboration with a landscape designer to rethink green spaces and biodiversity in urban settings, with the aim of creating a community project. We are also looking into emerging political voices by talking with young politicians or those aiming to be one, and to understand what motivated them to become politically involved, and what their communication strategies are. We have received great support from DEAL and its community in developing our ‘City Portrait’. If you have questions or happen to be in Tokyo, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
