At PINUS Indonesia, we believe saving our forests starts with empowering the people who protect them. We champion a future where ecological sustainability guarantees economic prosperity for grassroots communities. Our heart lies with the frontline guardians—especially the inspiring women forest defenders we organize and uplift across South Sumatra and South Sulawesi. Beyond the grassroots, we drive systemic change. As the secretariat for the civil society coalition on ecological fiscal policy, we actively advocate for equitable ecological fiscal policies. By bridging global finance and local action, we don’t just protect nature; we secure the livelihoods of those defending it.
PINUS Indonesia’s core activities bridge grassroots empowerment with systemic ecological fiscal reform. We lead public policy advocacy to advance equitable environmental fiscal transfers (EFT) and green growth initiatives at both local and national levels. At the community level, we focus on securing the economic well-being of women forest defenders. Our key interventions include running business incubators that scale sustainable social forestry enterprises and developing innovative financing mechanisms like "Conservation for Premium," a pioneering parametric insurance and social security scheme.
