Bujumbura, Bujumbura Mairie, Burundi

On Thursday, 22 October 2026, Global Donut Days was celebrated in Burundi, with 25 participants through Donut Circle Burundi. The event introduced Doughnut Economics, inspired by the Doughnut Economics Action Lab (DEAL), as a way to build a fairer and more sustainable society.

Using traditional mandazi, participants explored how to meet essential human needs while protecting nature. Discussions highlighted access to clean water, food, healthcare, education, and housing, alongside environmental challenges such as pollution, deforestation, plastic waste, and soil degradation.

Participants exchanged ideas, identified practical ways to address local challenges. The event connected DEAL’s principles with Burundi’s cultural traditions and everyday realities, encouraging community participation and collective responsibility.

Global Donut Days strengthened awareness of Doughnut Economics and inspired participants to promote social well-being, environmental protection, and sustainable development. Donut Circle Burundi remains committed to supporting local solutions for a safe and just Burundi where people and nature thrive together.
