Born in north England in 1950, migrated to Australia in 1972 and enjoyed the carefree days of the Permaculture movement. Studied history, and architecture at University, then obtained a builders license and had a 30 year career in the construction industry, including "alternative" construction, mud brick, pole frame. In 1992 I shed tears as Severin Suzuki explained the plight of the world and since then climate change has occupied my life in many ways. I read Tim Jackson´s Prosperity Without Growth in 2009, the same year as the "last chance" Copenhagen COP collapsed.  In 2011 I moved to Barcelona, arriving the day before 15M, and I became enchanted with the city and its people, and yet the official COP process produced only fairly tales of impossible promises "Decoupling", "Carbon offsets" "technological efficiencies" and the blatant fraud of Biomass accounting. I am extremely grateful to the ICTA pioneers, (GK, JH), and of course KR for bringing the doughnut to Barcelona, and am looking forward to seeing Tim Jackson soon. ALSO, BIG UP´s to ALL for the Beyond Growth forum at the E.U. I thought I would never see such an event !!!

When I discovered the paradigm of sustainable development, I saw it as a viable alternative to our current capital markets mindset as taught in university economic departments.  Ever since I have enjoyed expressing my gifts across a range of themes: * personal development psychology * sustainable wealth management * regenerative economic development * green economy * business innovation This has made me a student of the history of the philosophy of finance. I am a passionate advocate for the environment, driven by a profound love for ecology, nature, biodiversity, and animals. I consider myself fortunate to be part of the Doughnut Economics Action Lab, where I can contribute my skills and knowledge to a community that is committed to transforming how we live and work on this planet. In my efforts to marry my passion for the environment with my hands-on experience, I have volunteered with several forward-thinking organizations. One of my notable contributions has been to the Georgia Mountain Falconry Manual, where I worked to integrate ecological principles into practice. I've also been fortunate to work with the Ecological Society of Australia, helping to champion research and management that enhance ecological outcomes in a time of dramatic global environmental change. My commitment to addressing climate change led me to volunteer briefly with the Citizens Climate Lobby. This experience allowed me to understand the power of individuals and collective advocacy in pushing for essential policy changes. As I continue my studies in Artificial Intelligence at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology, I am constantly exploring how this cutting-edge field can intersect with sustainability and ecological goals. I believe that technological advancement can go hand in hand with environmental stewardship, and I am excited by the potential that AI holds in driving sustainable solutions. My interest extends to concepts like sustainability and degrowth, which challenge traditional economic paradigms and offer the promise of a balanced, equitable, and sustainable society. I head the network's Global Learning Lab, which seeks to deepen global understanding of how to bring about systemic transformation in education. I've written about the future of education for the Guardian, Financial Times, and Wired. I am a #vegan environmentalist working on the Plant Based Treaty campaign. I co-founded Toronto Pig Save with my dog Mr. Bean in late 2010. In the 1990s, I was involved in old growth forest protection campaigns in Clayoquot Sound and the Great Bear Rainforest in British Columbia. I did a PhD in political studies at the University of Toronto on the topic of green learning, drawing on models from the early American labour movement and civil rights movement and with environmental case studies on the climate crisis and old growth forests. I currently am ED of Animal Save Movement, a global network of chapters in which activists bear witness to pigs, cows, chickens, horses, rabbit, ducks, turkey and other farmed animals at the front gates of slaughterhouses with the aim of encouraging people to go vegan and become activists. I co-authored a book "The Secret Lives of Pigs" (Lantern). I work mainly on policy and system change via the cities and global campaign of the Plant Based Treaty.

My passion for sustainability sprouted from the fertile soil of my ​Wisconsin roots, and as I observed the delicate balance of nature around ​me, I felt an undeniable calling to protect it. I embarked on a new path - one that would allow me to ​create a profound impact on a global scale. In pursuit of my newfound passion, I transitioned from the world of ​physiotherapy to local government, where I ​learned the intricacies of policy-making and the importance of fostering ​sustainability practices within communities. As I delved deeper into the world of sustainability, my vision ​expanded beyond my local surroundings, and I yearned to be at the ​forefront of the global movement to combat climate change and promote ​sustainable living. I then embarked ​on a life-changing journey, relocating to the Netherlands to found The ​Waste Not Spot, a bridge connecting businesses, not-for-profits and ​governments to sustainable strategies that transcend borders.

Lausanne, Switzerland

Since 2021, I led the downscaling of the Doughnut to the transboundary area of the Greater Geneva (France, Switzerland) and to the University of Lausanne. I spent pretty much time working on the following issues : • how to downscale the Doughnut without loosing its deep ecology approach ? • which ecological indicators can we use at local and global scales ? • how to build a social basement based on the Theory of Human Needs approach (to ensure that a Safe and Just Space still exists) ? My colleague Cecilia Matasci, also from the University of Lausanne, created a method to evaluate the Global-Social impacts of the university, based on the imported modern slavery. I spent my less time on : • participative production of the downscaled Doughnut (we always did it between "experts") • transforming business models with Doughnut Economics • producing operationnal public policies driven by the Doughnut Model (on process with the Administration of the University of Lausanne, in 2024).

Surrey Hills National Landscape

I am the Director for the Surrey Hills National Landscape, one of the family of 44 National Parks and Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty in England.    I lead on developing the statutory Management Plan for the Surrey Hills which sets out the vision and policy framework for the area.   This is adopted by government and all public bodies have a duty to further the purpose of the designation by helping to deliver the Plan. I am keen to use the principles and practices of Donut Economics as the basis for developing the Surrey Hills Management Plan with a 75 year vision (2025 - 2100)

I'm a conscious capitalist who believes that it's possible to elevate humanity and the planet through business.  As co-chair of the San Diego chapter of Conscious Capitalism, part of Cause San Diego team, and on the planning committee for World Design Capital 2024, we would like to learn more about using Donut Economics principles in our San Diego region.      I left my last corporate job as president of accessories for Ralph Lauren to work with the fashion industry to help retail consumer goods brands become more triple bottom line. I'm active in the industry as a speaker, advisor and thought leader and also the author of a children's book for Conscious Capitalism Press - The ABCs of Conscious Capitalism for KIDs.

I am the social economy activist/ expert in social politics, most of my work experiences are focused on the reintegration of the most vulnerable groups, with especial scope on homelessness. I m developing cross regional project aiming to rise social inclusion and socialenertproneurship. Another area of my working and research interest are social services (research, grassroots analysis, developing new pathways, methodology, evaluation of the services provided). Day to day I m managing director of the NGO which is the helping institution delivering help to more then 2000 people annually in my family town Cieszyn, south Poland.

Currently studying Global Wealth and Poverty part-time at the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign (UIUC), while working full-time as a Senior ESG Analyst at Nasdaq on the Corporate ESG Strategy and Reporting team. During my studies at UIUC, I have gained sustainable development practitioner experience through participating in four international programs in three countries on the African continent. These programs included conducting research on gender-based violence at the University of Dar es Salaam in Tanzania in 2018, working as a micro-enterprise consultant in Cape Town, South Africa and Arusha, Tanzania in 2019, and spending a semester taking courses in International Development and Kiswahili at the University of Nairobi in Kenya in 2020. I take pride in continuing to leverage these bottom-up/local engagement experiences to inform potential macro-impact strategies in the private sector.
