I am a filmmaker and communications professional with a decade of visual storytelling experience. I founded Cape Creative in 2014 for my side freelance work, and eventually built it into the full production company it is today. Prior to working at Cape Creative full-time, I worked at national and international agencies: Blue State Digital, The Biscuit Factory, and GMR Marketing. I created visual stories for major brands including Comcast, Microsoft, Lowe’s, Coca-Cola, Pepsi, and I helped create content for causes like Freedom to Marry and Shatterproof, an organization working to reverse the addiction crisis in the U.S.   I have a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Marquette University, where I was a three-sport Division I athlete. I also hold a master’s degree in Geography & the Environment from the University of Oxford. My master’s thesis on feminist geographies, which received a distinction, was used by the Obama White House to develop its policy around sexual assault on college campuses. I live in Barcelona with my better half, Katie, who also works in the communications industry.

Listening to Kate Raworth at the launch of Architects Declare in 2019 was a pivotal moment in my life. Since then I have become an activist in the built environment, focusing on retrofit as a way to build social justice in our societies. I'm a coordinator in the Architects Climate Action Network, and have worked alongside others involved with DEAL including the ever inspirational Civic Square, Dark Matter Labs and others to deliver Retrofit Reimagined, a festival that took place in Birmingham in summer 2022, which was another pivotal moment in the direction of action in this space.

I feel a sense of crisis that the world is now on the verge of collapse in terms of both the environment, economy, and society, and I am considering a post-capitalist society relative to the capitalist society. To achieve this, it is necessary to catch accurate and creative information quickly and use it appropriately. In recent years, doughnut economics has been attracting attention and being valued by communities that question excessive capitalism and technocracy, but there is still a noticeable delay in reaching social implementation, especially in Japan. That is why I would like to participate in the DOUGHNUT ECONOMICS ACTION LAB, not only to bring inspiration and ideas to my personal activities, but also to participate in the activities of the DOUGHNUT ECONOMICS ACTION LAB and work for the realization of a sustainable economy in Japan.
