Listening to Kate Raworth at the launch of Architects Declare in 2019 was a pivotal moment in my life. Since then I have become an activist in the built environment, focusing on retrofit as a way to build social justice in our societies. I'm a coordinator in the Architects Climate Action Network, and have worked alongside others involved with DEAL including the ever inspirational Civic Square, Dark Matter Labs and others to deliver Retrofit Reimagined, a festival that took place in Birmingham in summer 2022, which was another pivotal moment in the direction of action in this space.

I studied urban management and development with a specialization in Economics and a master's degree in Urban Management, Sustainability, and Climate Change. I possess a holistic approach that enables me to analyze, develop, and address challenges in a unique manner. With seven years of experience in diverse fields spanning the private and public sectors, I have gained a comprehensive perspective. Throughout my career, I have worked on various topics, including sustainable mobility, socio-economic and financial assessment, risk assessment, project evaluation, research, urban planning, and sustainability from different stakeholder viewpoints. This breadth of experience equips me with a well-rounded approach to tackling challenges, problems, and projects. Two years ago, I made the decision to pursue my dream of acquiring further knowledge in the field of sustainability. This led me to choose the Netherlands as the destination for my master's studies. Embarking on this path required a considerable leap in my professional journey, and while it was not an easy decision to start anew, my dedication to contributing to the creation of a more sustainable world remains unwavering. Upon learning about the DEAL community and the specific role it offers, I was immediately captivated by the prospect of bridging the gap between theory and practice. Recognizing the significance of collaboration with key stakeholders, including businesses, cities, academia, and citizens. I consider that it is imperative that we take actionable steps to reduce adverse impacts on the environment and cultivate awareness of the planet's limits. This awareness is crucial for informing decision-making processes on a global scale, all from a sustainability perspective.

I'm a product management professional based in Seattle, WA, currently seeking to transition my career into the climate tech space. In late summer/early fall 2023, I participated in the Terra.do "Climate Change: Learning for Action" program, which was my first introduction to Doughnut Economics. At that time I was reflecting that "ever-increasing growth" as a primary success metric for companies seems not only unrealistic but tends to drive perverse incentives to generate more profit at the expense of employee morale and wellness. I wondered why companies have to perpetually grow -why can't a business be considered "successful" because it achieves and maintains a stable and sustainable level of profitability? I understand the unfortunate answer that our current economic system gives, but reading Doughnut Economics gave me hope that we can move towards a better system. I'm still very much learning about the various sectors within the climate space, but some key areas of interest for me are , , and .

I'm a father and secondary school teacher, and I'm looking to apply what the people at are discovering to my local community. I live in a rural part of the world, and the changes our farming community has seen over the past decade have been pretty alarming. With that in mind, I would like to make connections and build on some ideas with others on this platform. I am the furthest things from an expert, which is why I'm turning to you at the DEAL community to help. Primarily, I'd like to focus on initiatives, and projects, with the goal of improving the in these areas, in local communities with the aim of building in our . Bigger picture projects would be something like , or making local communities more energy independent; also, improving to go beyond memorization but actually apply and synthesize what we're learning to improve the our lives and the lives of others. Lastly, I would also like to think about , and bring in the older and wiser members of a community to advise, plan and implement ideas and strategies that will improve the lives of the younger generations, and those to come. I believe this can a lot of this can be done by working with . I am also aware that this is not easy, and will require a away from perpetual that is mostly individualistic and towards a richer, more world that is more community-focused. Thanks for reading this far, and please get in touch.
