It started out as a simple idea. One of those ideas that wakes you up in the early hours and you know you need to start making notes immediately. I had recently finished Kate Raworths book and felt inspired by the ideas and concepts highlighted in the book.

I’m sure I am not the only one that reads a good book and has every intention to take action and make the changes necessary to build a more ethical life, business, and community, but has no idea where or how to start.

As a Director of a local family business within the hospitality sector, I'm in a good position to start making some changes and the businesses impact on the doughnut economy but I was still unsure on how to start. That's when I found this incredible community and resources.

Like most ideas that wake you up at 4am on a Sunday it seemed simple and straightforward; Design a tool to the toolbox that could be used by a range of businesses to get them thinking about the doughnut model and their influence and impact on it.

Over the following week I started to build my simple tool and very quickly realised it was going to be a bigger task than I had initially expected.

My mission is to create a tool that can be used by a broad spectrum of businesses to measure the effect of any business decision on the categories within the doughnut model. Working on similar principles to Health and Safety risk assessments the tool will guide businesses through a series of questions to help them determine the impact and broaden their thinking regarding social shortfalls and planetary pressures.

If anyone has any ideas, suggestions, or would like to help please get in touch!

That’s all for now
