Doughnut Economics for Engineers

A webinar on how Doughnut Economics can reshape engineering practice

Summary

The webinar Doughnut Economics for engineers: From theory to practice, held on 29 January 2026, looked at how Doughnut Economics can support engineers in making more informed, responsible and impactful decisions in their work. The session was hosted by Engineers Without Borders (EWB) UK and Ilektra Kouloumpi (DEAL's Sectors Lead), with contributing speakers: Ian Poole (Innovation Lead and Environmental Steward at Elliott Wood) and Mike Sefton (Associate at Expedition Engineering).

The conversation touched on questions that don't always get much space in technical discussions.  These include who has a say in engineering decisions, how communities can be involved in shaping projects, and the challenges engineers face when it comes to pushing back against projects that risk causing social or environmental harm.
