Designing Thriving Circular Cities with Doughnut Economics (Past)
A hands-on workshop to learn how to use Doughnut Economics to design holistic circular city strategies and policies.
Please Note: This event has now finished and can no longer be joined.
More and more cities are recognising the circular economy as a means to improve living conditions for growing populations and meet emissions targets.
However, designing cities that are circular, inclusive and just for all, requires a much more holistic approach to the circular economy - one that stretches beyond the intelligent management of resources.
Using the Doughnut economic model as a framework for big picture thinking, helps us understand the complex social and environmental challenges that cities face, both locally and globally, and allows us to design circular cities that respect the well-being of all people and the planet as a whole.
Circle Economy and Doughnut Economics Action Lab offer an online hands-on workshop for city makers exploring how the model can be applied to holistically design circular city strategies and policies.
Host: Circle Economy & DEAL
CE: Ilektra Kouloumpi, Thriving Cities Lead, Circle Economy
DEAL: Leonora Grcheva, Cities & Regions Lead, DEAL
In a couple of plenary and breakout exercises, the participants will be introduced to the holistic thinking of Doughnut Economics and the principles of circular cities and will explore how to apply them to design circular strategies for food, construction, and consumer goods sectors, integrating social and environmental considerations.
The workshop will offer a quick "taster" of putting these approaches into practice, as well as an opportunity for city makers coming from different cities to jointly discuss, exchange experiences and learn from each other.
To attend, please register yourself in advance via LinkedIn and have a Miro and Zoom account ready to use.
The Nordic Circular Summit is a four-day digital summit exploring the circular economy in the Nordic region. It is co-hosted and produced by Nordic Circular Hotspot and Nordic Innovation, and is an official World Circular Economy Forum (WCEF) Side Event. Attendance is free and open to all.

Ciao ! I am an Italian young woman pursuing my MA in Transnational Governance in Florence. I am specializing in Climate Governance, particularly in social circular economy. I am extremely interested in the Doughnut Economics model (especially in its application in the city of Amsterdam!), so please reach out!
