No voice, choice or power (2 of 2) (Past)
Exploring ways to work with communities who feel they have no voice, choice or power to change things

(This is one of two sessions on this topic - view the other here)
To what extent do you feel like you have the voice, choice and power to change things that affect your life?
How about in your community? To what extent are you part of a community - or connected to a community - who feel they have voice, choice or power to change things that affect them?
Around the world, sadly, the communities that are most impacted by all the negatives of the current economic model are most likely to feel they have no voice, choice or power to change things.
People living in areas of deprivation have less access to fresh food, are most likely to be negatively impacted by higher temperatures, are less healthy, with lower life expectancy, and have less access to safe, enjoyable natural space.
Most commonly these communities have changes 'done to them' and are generally disengaged and can't see the point in engaging in conversations about systemic change.
And to compound this issue, often the clearest ways to meet their needs ends up perpetuating global inequalities. The poor end up exploiting the poor because they can't afford and/or don't have access to more healthy and fair options.
Does this injustice speak to you? If so, this peer-to-peer session might be for you, where we’ll be exploring ways to work with communities who feel they have no voice, choice or power to change things. And how the ideas and tools of Doughnut Economics can be in the hands of those who most need voice, choice and power to bring about a more equitable and regenerative future.
In the sessions there will be space to share approaches we’re aware of, as well as any insights we’ve gathered, and questions that are most alive for us. And the spirit of these peer-learning spaces is that there's no one expert and we're all here as learners. We will have something to contribute, whether that be to to listen, to reflect, to share your personal experience or to share some ideas.
This is one of two sessions. Please use the link above to register and you'll receive a zoom link to join.
If you would know more about the session, or if you have any access requirements, please email Rob Shorter rob@doughnuteconomics.org, Communities & Art Lead at DEAL, who will be facilitating.

Suntheary DE MONTAIGNE
Phnom Phnom Penh, Cambodia
Hello, My name is Suntheary (Sun), and I'm excited to join this community of changemakers from Phnom Penh, Cambodia. Born in Thailand as a refugee and raised in France, I've spent the last 20 years living and working across Asia. As a mother of two, I understand the importance of creating a sustainable future for the next generation. My professional journey is guided by three interconnected pillars: Marketing, Sustainability, and Food–with sustainability at the heart of everything I do, perfectly aligning with DEAL's mission of transforming Doughnut Economics into action. With a background in International Business and Marketing, I've led food distribution and brand development in China, collaborating with chefs and international food brands. In Cambodia, I've witnessed the country's remarkable growth while serving as an intercultural consultant. I'm now pivoting toward my new role as Food Sustainability Consultant & Marketing Strategist, actively seeking impact-driven opportunities in the food and agri-food industry. I've completed courses in Design Thinking for Sustainability and CSR Strategy, and I'm currently pursuing executive training on Sustainable Food and Sustainable Marketing at Cambridge CISL. My multicultural background and Asian market expertise position me to bridge cultures and drive meaningful change in food systems transformation. Having experienced diverse food systems, I'm passionate about creating solutions that meet humanity's needs within planetary boundaries—truly embodying Doughnut Economics principles. I'm excited to facilitate Doughnut Economics workshops, exchange innovative ideas, and connect with conscious professionals and citizens as we work together toward a more regenerative and equitable future. I look forward to collaborating with businesses—connecting with owners, directors, and employees who share our vision of creating thriving economies that respect both people and planetary boundaries—as well as with civil society communities, including students, school children, and conscious consumers. #FoodSystemsTransformation #SustainableMarketing #DoughnutEconomics #AsianMarkets #RegenerativeEconomy
