The conference brings together ecological economists from across Europe, and is organized in collaboration with the city of Ghent and several local NGOs. It will host a series of keynote lectures, parallel sessions and poster sessions. There will be an open special subtrack (OSS11.5) with the title “Teaching and learning ecological economics”, organised by Lina Isacs (Department of Economic History, Uppsala university, Sweden), Pernilla Andersson (Department of Education, Uppsala University, Sweden), and Tom Kuppens (Centre for Environmental Sciences, Hasselt University, Belgium). This track seeks contributions involving theoretical, empirical, and practical knowledge on how economic education can be developed to align with ecological economic principles.

The organisers of this open special subtrack are collaborating with DEAL in a research project funded by the Swedish Research Council: https://www.uu.se/en/department/education/research/curriculum-studies/laboratory-for-teaching-practices-teplab/teaching-and-learning-the-embedded-economy. In collaboration with upper secondary teachers in Belgium and Sweden they are using the Embedded Economy model and the lesson series “Meet the Economy” to test and develop new teaching materials in subjects such as Social studies and Economics.
