Doughnut Economics About DEAL News & Updates Meet the DEAL Team Careers FAQ Wider Movement Contact UsI am an artist who runs a community organisation and community garden on the estate where I live in East London. Through my practice I endeavour to create the kind of art world of which I would like to be a part: reconfiguring the grounds upon which participation in the cultural landscape is made possible by building networks, organising discussions and collaborating with others. I believe that it is important to recognise that culture is being produced all the time and encompasses a whole panoply of human endeavours and it is these that we will need to support from the grass-roots up, if we really want culture to count for anything. This involves thinking holistically, not just of say, the garden we are going to plant and the fruits of that labour, but the question of who holds the baby while we are digging. Recognising the manifold ways that human society holds together and addressing the fact that care work is done by the most economically vulnerable is vital.
