Paul Bishop
Birkdale, Brisbane, Queensland, Australia
A husband, father (of 4), professional actor (since 1985), ecological entrepreneur (since 2004), elected representative/local Redland City Councillor (since 2012). I live on Quandamooka Country and pay respect to thousands of generations of elder connection to country, as we seek to make sense of how to sustain life for people in Australia after 7-8 generations of connection to this place. As a creative innovator & fiercely independent individual, I democratically represent ‘the best interests of the majority of citizens over the long term future’, I also respect diversity, equity & justice. I am committed to collective, collaborative, cooperative work in the common interest. Before & since being elected, much of my work as the founder of Arts Evolution (an ecological enterprise committed to pathways that support sustainable human futures) has remained outside public view, yet the core theme relates to our need to orient the ‘self within society’ as we enter The Anthroposcene.

I am a Post Graduate Research who completed my Undergraduate and Honours degrees in Industrial Engineering, from the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering at the University of Pretoria. I completed my Master's in Industrial Engineering and I am currently busy with an international exchange as part of an additional master's program in innovation and entrepreneurship at HVL (Western Norway University of Applied Sciences) in Bergen Norway. Considering a PhD in complex decisions making in the Financial Industry, as a follow-up to my Master's in Industrial Engineering research. I have completed my black belt in Six Sigma. I started businesses and consulted for the past several years with various companies and learned as much as possible along the way. I love reading business literature written by experts from industry as I know that the only way I can make the necessary impact is to understand the world as broadly as possible to ensure that the research I do is based on what the real problems are that we face. Business is my passion, but I know that I still have a lot to learn before I can make the difference I want to make.

My belief in the power of individuals to effect positive change led to a career in fundraising with Habitat for Humanity in Toronto, and since 2007 with the University of Toronto. At my church, i led a refugee sponsorship initiative, and founded a foot care program for homeless guests. I am also a founder of the volunteer-run book store which to date has contributed over $1.4M to the Toronto Public Library. In 2020 i joined the board of directors of Leadnow, a citizen-powered organization dedicated to a more just and equitable Canada. My family and i call Toronto home.

I'm a software engineer by trade focused on living in a more conscious and sustainable way through the yogic way of life. In the yogic sciences they say "in is the only way out" and I firmly believe that becoming better connected with our own inner nature and the living world around us is the key to living consciously in this world and help with the most pressing social and environmental problems of our time. I recently quit my job at Amazon and I'm currently attending a 7-month yoga program called Sadhanapada at the Isha Yoga Center in India to work on myself as a human being before I embark on the next step of seeing how I can more directly contribute to help with the social and environmental issues we face.

I'm passionate about how we educate the next generation to think quantitatively about the challenges the planet faces, embedding sustainable development into the curriculum from early years in a way that not only builds awareness but the motivation and skills to effect real change. My background is across Health and Education driving the use of digital technologies to improve lives. Covid has shown that it is possible, albeit in extreme circumstances, to change behaviour at scale and we need to capitalise on this to tackle the larger challenges associated with a sustainable future. We can't expect people to take the health of the planet seriously if we can't convince them to manage their own wellbeing.

Hi all. I’m a Regenerative Practitioner, Architect and founding Principal of Lateral Agency – a regenerative development consultancy and research & capacity-building platform; founded as a social venture in the wake of the IPCC’s 2018 landmark Special Report. We focus on helping organizations and communities leverage civic infrastructure projects as catalysts for (re)investing in mutual flourishing - now and through time. As a mother and unsettled settler, born on the Indigenous territories of the Anishinaabe, Haudenosaunee and Huron-Wendat Nations, I’m raising my daughter on the unceded territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm, Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw and səlilwətaɬ Nations as an uninvited guest. I’m working to learn and unlearn how to uphold my responsibilities to these lands and to uplift the wisdom and self-determination of those living in reciprocal relationship with them since time immemorial. I look forward to thinking into Doughnut Economics & DEAL through these lenses together.
