I do so through several initiatives: Trash Hero Amsterdam (zero waste lifestyle and community building) , Klimaat gesprekken (helping people connect the hughness of the taskk ahead), The Butterfly Impact (my company linking all these initiatives) , The Footprint Challenge (40 day online challenge to help people get to know and decrease their footprint and increase their handprint) and Fairbnb.coop (a holiday rental plateform that is fair, and stands for keeping the economic value local by giving 50% of the commission to local projects and with simple rules helps maintain a fair housing market. )

I live in Bilbao, in the north of Basque Country, and I work in SAIOLAN, in Mondragon. I have experience in collaborating with entrepreneurs in the development of new business activities. During last years I’ve focused my work (with some colleages in SAIOLAN) in connecting « foreign companies with innovative solutions » with « local companies » as a way to create new local business activities and new employment, while improving local economy’s circularity. In this work, we focus our search in innovative solutions that contribute to clean earth, water and air, and the evolution of agrifood industry towards Circular Economy. Easy&Fast to explain in few words, Complex&Slow to implement with success... Apart from SAIOLAN, I’m also involved in Fairphone Community (as Fairphone Angel) and in local cultural associations. I feel inspired by the compass that Doughnout E. could imply to behave smarter for the whole-we-take-part-in.

Hello. I graduated in oceanography, after which I took my master's degree in ecology, when I was introduced to ecological economics which lead me to look for deeper studies at a multidisciplinar doctorate on energy systems planning, focusing on how to evaluate socio environmental costs of oil spills. (Why not in economy you may ask. Well, because I would only learn mainstream economics ;) ) . Today I my focus is to understand if and how today's sustainability solutions may lead to unsustainable results in the future, whether by a flawed theoretical premise (as using neoclassical mindset) or systemic failure.

I am an expert in marine sustainability. The "blue economy" is the new buzzword in ocean management, and I think we urgently need to apply the principles of doughnut economics to the way in which we interact with the ocean. Human survival depends on the ocean, but we don't live there - we only ever visit. This makes our relationship with the ocean (3/4 of our planet!) very different from our relationship with the land. I see a lot of doughnut initiatives centred on cities and communities, but in the ocean we have no equivalent to municipalities with resident human populations (in fact, much of the ocean is beyond national jurisdiction). And yet, we visit, use, and impact on the ocean in many different ways. I love the existing green doughnut and all the tools that scale it down to particular localities, but where is the equivalent blue doughnut? The images, stories, tools and methods that help us apply the doughnut principles to the context of the blue economy?

Over 20+ years, my career in creativity, design and communication has evolved from internationally-acclaimed product innovation and future concepts for world-class events, to creative thinking skills for visionary leadership. My approach is influenced by my career origins in multidisciplinary concept generation and development - tapping into food, fashion, interiors, furniture, exhibition, spatial and urban design - and my personal passion, which is exploring how transformative habits, attitudes, practices, behaviours and relationships can be facilitated by forward-thinking design and communication. I began exploring Doughnut Economics around 2017, attending events from 2019, and becoming a DEAL community member on its launch in 2020. My interest in economics increased during my 2021 'Sustainable Development in Practice' Masters dissertation on narrative framing and communication of sustainability practices to UK business leaders, which touched on the difference between degrowth, growth-agnostic and growth-led perspectives. I started the Doughnut Economics group in Bath, UK in 2022, and and continue to support it and a number of councils, universities and enterprises with local outreach and engagement. I want to connect with others, it doesn’t matter the industry, to help support each other and stay focused in a world that works through a different paradigm. I have worked in the fashion industry for 20 years and have gone back to upskill studying Sustainability in my industry. I was frustrated trying to get accurate information on the clothing sector and decided to go back and get it firsthand and am loving it! But it is also incredibly disturbing to learn about the high levels of chemical use (8,000 different chemicals) and the degradation in human and environmental health in low cost manufacturing countries. And for a garment that is often worn just once. I am looking forward to living in a different world than this and I want to be part of the change and solution.
