Conventional processes are failing to tackle complex, social and environmental problems and in some cases are generating ‘black swan’ consequences.  I recognize that I am a contributor to this problem as I am part of the broken system that I want to change and I realise that doing ‘less harm’ is no longer enough.  Regeneration of our economies and societies and earth itself will require a shift in thinking and collaboration in a community like this.

Kate McLoughlin is an Assistant Professor in Management at University College Dublin. Kate’s research focuses on the role of business for society and explores this concept from varying perspectives including sustainability, ethics, institutional logic, systems thinking, and power. The variety of stakeholders and complex inter-organisational relationships in supply chain networks provide a rich and complex context to explore themes of power, values, and practices as she is interested in political and power discourses in the field. Kate is chair of the ‘Operations, Logistics and Supply Chain Management’ SIG in the British Academy of Management, a member of EurOMA’s Sustainable Operations and Supply Chains Forum and IPSERA, and reviews for a number of leading journals in the field.

Transforming it from an engine of over-consumption and waste generation to a powerful catalyst for positive change, in the pursuit of a sustainable world for all.

Our action research inspired by Esther Duflo, Jean Drèze, Humanitas, Hans Rosling, Tine Van Regenmortel, and several others, contributes to social justice and a distributive economy by demonstrating that the benefits of acting and governing in an appropriate manner contribute to the whole of society. In line with the scientific framework provided by Wilkinson and Atkinson, we show the financial and economic benefits of resolving endemic poverty, not only for the benefit of the taxpayer but also for the top 1% and 0,1% of the population. We focus on 4 interventions to prevent the development of endemic poverty. By strengthening self-esteem and connecting people with networks consisting of people not living in poverty we provide social capital and political voice and extended networks that facilitate an equitable vision of society. Secondly, by demonstrating the importance of purposeful work rather than traditional employment provided by employers, we strengthen the incentives to participate equitably in society through meaningful and sustainable jobs. Thirdly we researched and currently demonstrate the possibility to reverse the unqualified school leaving proportion of children living in deprived families. Lastly, we demonstrate that affordable homes are much more important than just their shelter-providing characteristic. Affordable homes are the key driver for qualified school leaving and activation with subsequent social participation because they broaden the mental bandwidth available.

Hi - I am Fanny.  Mum, wife, and money coach - in that order.  My work as a money coach is to spread the word that money need not be boring, frightening or in short supply.  My main focus is helping people develop a wonderful relationship with money, understanding that money needs to flow - like energy.  Money can only work well when fair exchange takes place.  Psychologically of course, that has different levels of meaning for us all and that is where the problems usually begin.  Our three life currencies - time, energy and money are precious gifts.  Manage them well and life is fulfilling and balanced. I believe that everyone should have the skills and knowledge to manage their money well, and to have a relationship with it that allows us to have a standard of living that serves to keep us healthy and happy.

I am experienced in Doughnut Economics and passionate about strategy. A recent project I managed 'Eco-I NW' was awarded 2023 European SDG Initiative of the Year and UK Net-Zero Business Collaboration of the Year. All of my work is driven by action with enterprise, working to help the business community to understand:  🤔 What they do; 🧐 What are the associated impacts of what we do and the climate risks posed to incumbent business models; 😃 How businesses can move towards co-created long-term visions of sustainability via innovations at the strategic, business model, product, service and process levels, in so doing enhancing their resilience to the climate threat. My entire background has been applied work with organisations that range from the European Commission, to global industries such as the aviation sector, multi-national corporations, local authorities, SMEs, and local community groups. I have also covered themes as diverse as climate change, waste management, environmental noise management, communication and engagement between stakeholders and many, many more. In so doing I have developed experience across a range of areas that drive business responses to climate. These include:  👨🏻‍💼 Project management of multi-million pound projects;  🤝 Facilitation of innovation workshops for sustainability; 🌍 Delivery of real GHG savings and new-to-market products and services; 💬 Communication and engagement of climate issues. To this end, I am a certified trainer in Carbon Literacy and one of 3 accredited trainers in Environmental Management at Airports for Airports Council International - the global governing body for the Airport sector.
