Doughnut Wien (Vienna)
Doughnut Wien (Vienna) is a coalition of people from various backgrounds (climate activism, design, business consultancy, strategic communication, education, care sector, policymaking) working towards transforming Vienna into a living lab for a post-growth society. Our goal is a city that is able to meet the needs of its citizens within planetary boundaries, in a way that also supports the global shift to a socially-just and regenerative economic system.
Initially founded at a climate strike in 2023, the coalition was a core organising partner of the Beyond Growth Austria Conference held in Vienna in May 2024.
For 2025 we are working towards creating a Doughnut4Wien (Doughnut for Vienna). We aim to use the Doughnut framework to accelerate policies and structures that can help more citizens, organisations and businesses take part in the transformation.

I have always had an adversity to money, and talk about money. And I always thought the talk in newspapers etc about the economy was at the least weird, at the worst mean spirited. I realise that our world is completely evolving around, and built for, money and its workings, and that what we get taught about economy is a scheme we are meant to stay put in. The fact that there seems to be a movement now that does not get squashed or peters out (at least not immediately) that seeks to change exactly these things about money and the economy, makes e enthusiastic about it. I came to this because of the writings of Kate Raworth, Piketty, Stephanie Kelton, George Monbiot, Rutger Bregman, BIEN (Basic Income Earth Network/basicincome.org) Evonomics.com Georgeo Simonetti and Margrit Kennedy. We MUST change, and this change needs to be from the ground up. Economy is ground work.
