Athens Joins Global Doughnut Day 2024
Athens hosted its first public event on Doughnut Economics, sparking dialogue on sustainability and the Doughnut model.

On November 11, 2024, Athens celebrated its first Global Doughnut Day by hosting a public event dedicated to Doughnut Economics, drawing over 100 participants from civil society, business, academia, and local government.
Held at Serafio City of Athens, the event aimed to introduce the Doughnut framework to a wider Greek audience and inspire collective action for a more sustainable and just future.
Participants engaged with interactive panels, exhibitions, and participatory sessions focused on the question: What would it mean for Athens to thrive within the Doughnut?
Speakers included municipal representatives, urban planners, grassroots organisations, and business leaders already working towards regenerative practices. The event also highlighted local initiatives aligned with Doughnut principles and provided space for emerging actors to connect.
Organised by a coalition of volunteers, practitioners, and community groups—including the newly formed Doughnut Economics Greece network—the event marked a milestone for the growing movement in the country. It built momentum for future collaborations and served as an open invitation to co-create thriving local economies.
