Turning ideas into action: Filipino translation of Doughnut Economics to inspire change.

Sharing a Vision: Translating Doughnut Economics for Filipino Readers
In college, we were tasked with translating a piece of writing that truly moved us. For my group and me, the choice was clear: we wanted to share a message that mattered—so we turned to Doughnut Economics.
The passage we selected resonated deeply because it challenges conventional economic models and emphasizes the balance between human well-being and planetary boundaries. Translating it into Filipino was a conscious choice—we wanted these ideas to be accessible to fellow students and the broader Filipino academic community.
This project wasn’t just about language; it was about making the vision of a regenerative, equitable economy tangible for the Philippines, a nation grappling with social inequality and environmental challenges. We reasoned that if we could frame these global economic concepts in a local context, more people could understand, reflect, and act on them.
Through this translation, we learned the power of language in shaping understanding and inspiring action. It reaffirmed that ideas, when shared across cultures and languages, can spark meaningful dialogue and motivate collective change. Our hope is that this small act of translating a moving passage will ignite curiosity and conversation about building a Filipino economy that is fairer, greener, and more sustainable.
