Launch of Colombian Wellbeing Economies Network <3

In Bogotá, we gathered to launch the Colombian Wellbeing Economies Network, a new collective effort to imagine and build an economy that serves life!

The event brought together people from different sectors: activists, entrepreneurs, educators, regenerative finance practitioners, environmental organizations, and citizens who share a common question: what would it mean for Colombia to measure progress beyond economic growth?
We as the network have been working on it for four months, so it was also the time to showcase a bit about the progress made: we have already run four events and are currently working in a policy piece about how wellbeing/doughnut economics frameworks can be applied in Colombia.
THIS NETWORK WAS CREATED DURING A GLOBAL DOUGHNUT DAY EVENT!!! We consider ourselves as the Colombian Doughnut network as well.

More than 60 people joined this event, which combined an introduction to wellbeing economies, a presentation of the network’s purpose, and an open space for networking and collective reflection. 

We explored Doughnut Economics because Colombia urgently needs new economic narratives. Our country is one of the most biodiverse in the world, but it also faces deep social inequality, extractive economic pressures, and fragile ecosystems. The Doughnut helped us ask a different kind of question: instead of asking how to grow endlessly, we asked how our economy can help people flourish while regenerating the living systems that sustain us. The video from DEAL team <3 to us was a peak moment of the event!

One of the main lessons from the event was that people are ready for a shift in language and imagination. What comes next is the determination to strengthen the Colombian Wellbeing Economies Network as a space for learning, collaboration, and action. We want to connect local initiatives, translate global frameworks into the Colombian context, and create opportunities for organizations to apply Doughnut Economics in concrete projects, territories, and institutions.
