In 2026, DECTO ran its second edition of its book club. For the past three months, the group gathered bi-weekly to read through Jason Hickel's Less is More: How Degrowth Will Save the World.
Reading through each chapter and through facilitated discussions, we explored how to build solidarity and community-based trust, cultural shifts needed to align with degrowth practices, misaligned market incentives, everyday practices and joys such as lending a hand to a neighbour or utilizing your local library or repair cafe, and more. The conversations covered both the big transformational societal shifts to the everyday decisions that ground us in our relationships and purpose as opposed to material consumption and extraction.
Here is a book list we compiled of degrowth and doughnut-aligned recommendations shared by book club members throughout our sessions.
