Developing city strategies with Doughnut Economics
Miro board with ideas and inspirations for local governments on bringing the Doughnut to city or sectoral strategies
version 1 (October 2024)
The ideas and tools of Doughnut Economics have been used in the development of various strategic plans across sectors - from city-wide spatial plans, to circular strategies, to climate strategies. There's no one way to be doing this - different approaches have been valuable to different places. We cover this in the #5 Plans and strategies in the Cities&Regions: Let's Get Started guide.
This Miro board is an extension of the guide, offering additional materials that could guide, steer or inform your plans, with links to tools, resources and practical examples. It's not an extensive or rigid guide, but rather a work-in-progress compilation of resources.
It offers, as a start, five ways to think about bringing Doughnut Economics into your municipal strategic plans, by: (1) learning about new ideas and possibilities, (2) using Doughnut Economics as a visioning tool and compass, (3) bringing it into monitoring & evaluation, (4) using the tools and ideas to map the ecosystem of actors and co-design common challenges and implementation partnerships, and (5) using Doughnut Economics business tools to enable and support the transformation of businesses.
