Reclaiming Wellbeing Through Story, Space & Solidarity
GDD 2025 Nairobi: Doughnut Economics in action through community story, space, and solidarity. Join us

Our Vision
This year for Global Donut Days (GDD 2025), we are collaborating with three communities in Kenya to co-create narratives and events that showcase how Doughnut Economics is already being practiced at the grassroots level. Our goal is to highlight how these communities are regenerating wellbeing for people and the planet, while introducing Doughnut concepts in ways that are festive, artistic, and emotionally resonant. Each activity will serve as a local expression of the global movement—anchored in real lives, lived spaces, and local knowledge.
This series of events is a direct, on-the-ground exploration of Doughnut Economics in the context of Nairobi. Our goal is to move the Doughnut from a conceptual framework to a lived reality by showcasing how local communities are already working within its principles.
- Meeting the Social Foundation: Each of our partner communities addresses core social needs. Tempo Arts provides a space for youth empowerment and community connection. The Youth of Ngong Road Forest advocate for health and equitable access to green public spaces. Tuvuli Org's work reinforces cultural identity and gives a political voice to marginalized communities.
- Respecting the Ecological Ceiling: The events are fundamentally tied to regenerating our planet. The Youth of Ngong Road Forest’s work directly protects biodiversity and builds a climate shield for Nairobi. Tempo Arts demonstrates how to heal degraded land, turning a former dumpsite into a thriving ecosystem. Tuvuli Org brings traditional ecological knowledge to the forefront, offering wisdom on how to live in balance with nature.
Ultimately, these events will make the invisible visible - showing how Doughnut principles live in the soil, the stories, and the shared spaces of everyday people. Our intention is to invite a deeper cultural shift where agency, beauty, and belonging become tools for economic reimagination.
Our celebration will consist of several distinct events hosted with our community partners, culminating in a collaborative festival.
Please note: Specific dates, times, and venues will be finalized and announced closer to the event.
- TEMPO ART COMMUNITY: “We Are the Change We Seek”
Tempo Art has transformed a degraded area into a thriving ecosystem using permaculture, art, and dance. For GDD 2025, they will host a community storytelling and performance day, offering an embodied introduction to Doughnut Economics. Through creative expression, members will explore powerful actions they can take to foster personal, ecological, and collective wellbeing. - YOUTH OF NGONG ROAD FOREST: “Guardians of the Forest Commons”
A group of young champions for urban rewilding will organize a Forest Walk and Stakeholder Gathering. This event will celebrate the Ngong Road Forest as a vital urban commons, build local awareness, and explore how forest care and community wellbeing are intertwined using Doughnut principles. It will also create a space for policy conversations on equitable access to green spaces. - TUVULI Org: “Stories That Steward the Earth”
Tuvuli Org uses storytelling as a tool for advocacy. For GDD, they will screen a short documentary capturing the voices and regenerative wisdom of nomadic Maasai communities. The community screening will bring together residents, civil society, and policymakers to spark dialogue on stewardship, identity, and how traditional ecological knowledge can inform urban regenerative living. - COLLABORATIVE MINI-FESTIVAL: “Work, Place & Belonging”
To culminate our celebration, we will host a playful and thoughtful festival-style gathering. Bringing together stakeholders from civil society, business, academia, and grassroots communities, this event will use games, dialogue circles, and shared meals to offer a sensory and social immersion into the principles of the Doughnut and the Wellbeing Economy.
Our events will be held in-person at various inspiring community locations across Nairobi.
Full registration details, including physical addresses, event-specific timings, and links to sign up, will be shared on this page once planning is finalized. Please check back for updates!
