Teaching Doughnut Economics in Universities
A webinar for lecturers & professors interested in bringing Doughnut Economics into their curricula and teaching

In November 2024, DEAL and Rethinking Economics International launched Doughnut Economics for University Courses - a webpage providing extensive slide decks, videos, readings and activities for anyone seeking to teach each of the 'seven ways to think like a 21st century economist' at university level.
We have been bowled over by the interest that these materials have generated since then. So far we know of eight confirmed changes that have been made in university curricula to integrate some of these materials - from Germany to Puerto Rico and Nigeria to the UK (and if you know of such changes being made elsewhere, do let us know!) We have also heard from over 60 universities where academics want to introduce the materials in their teaching, or students plan to campaign for their inclusion in the curriculum.
As a result of this rapidly growing interest, DEAL and Rethinking Economics are hosting two webinars in order to start connecting and supporting this emerging academic community of practice. On both 31st March and 17 April we will host open sessions for academics interested in incorporating the concepts of Doughnut Economics into their teaching (these sessions will cover the same content so you need only attend one of them).
These events will be a chance for you to re-engage with the DE university resources, and an opportunity to hear from academics who have successfully used the resources to change their teaching. And there will be plenty of time for discussion, so bring your questions!
Register for the session on 31 March and check the correct start time for where you are
Please note that these webinars are specifically for academics in universities or higher education institutes wishing to bring Doughnut Economics into their teaching.
If you are a student interesting in campaigning for Doughnut Economics to be taught as part of your university course, please sign up here and Rethinking Economics will be in touch!

I wrote Doughnut Economics as the book that I wished I could have read when I was an economics student at university. It had far more traction than I could of imagined so I spent two years giving talks about it. Then I thought, OK, enough talk: who actually wants to do this? Because every day I was getting messages from teachers, community makers, city planners, entrepreneurs, civil servants - all of whom were starting to turn the ideas of Doughnut Economics into practice. I'm a big believer in the power of peer-to-peer inspiration. So often, the most inspiring person is someone like yourself - a fellow teacher, or mayor, or community leader - who is already doing that thing that you thought was impossible. So I cannot wait to see what happens in this community. Here's to the change-makers who just start doing it. Let's co-create the tools for a regenerative and distributive future. Let's share our stories of what we did and how - because that is what will inspire us all.
