I am an insatiably curious person who loves running in the mountains, swimming in the ocean, connecting with people, and is obsessed with solving problems that matter. I am passionate about climate, income equality, and health.

I'm a professor of atmospheric and climate sciences at University of Washington. I teach classes like Climate, Justice and Energy Solutions (creative commons interactive textbook here: https://uw.pressbooks.pub/climatejusticeandenergysolutions/) and Fundamentals of Climate Change (text here: https://uw.pressbooks.pub/fundamentalsofclimatechange/). I do research on climate modeling of all different complexities, and study future energy and climate pathways also.

As a grandfather, my concern about the future of the world, or more correctly humanity, is for my children and grandchildren - having read Tim Jackson’s book on economics for a finite planet many years ago I have been concerned that all our major political parties in this country have endless growth as the centre of their policies - my other big “thing” is wealth tax which is pivotal to reducing the huge inequality in living standards which, if introduced, would reduce the impact of reducing consumption and living with reducing GDP on the vast majority of the public and make this a more saleable concept nationally as opposed to locally.

As a facilitator and coach I work with leaders and organisations on their journey to sustainable businesses. I'm therefore interested in ideas bringing the Donut philosophy into business.
