Hi all! I work for Community Action Groups (CAG) Oxfordshire. We are a network of over 100 community action groups working across Oxfordshire to make it a safer, fairer, greener, more sustainable place to live, work and visit. As part of my work, I co-ordinate the Owned by Oxford partnership, a community wealth building project. Our vision is for a fair, democratic and sustainable economy in Oxford, an economy owned and controlled by its community, and that puts people, planet and wellbeing before profit. I love the doughnut economics framework as brings together environmental and social justice as one, recognising that our health and wellbeing is necessarily linked to the health and wellbeing of our planet and of non-human beings.

I am a member of our local Community Land Trust which is part of the National Community Land trust Network. Land Trusts are community controlled and community owned not for profit organisations. We aim for long term stewardship of affordable housing or other community assets. In St Ives there is a lack of affordable housing for local people. The Community came together to raise the money to buy a large old property. We have been able to begin the renovation of the building to create six affordable flats to rent for local people with the support of a mortgage from Triodos Bank and funding partners including the Architectural Heritage Fund, the Ministry of Housing Communities and Local Government. The renovation involves the conversion to renewable energy sources. The Trust has also raised the money to buy another building, a former Chapel, this project will be for the development of affordable workshop spaces.

I've been an organizer since December 2016 (primarily with Indivisible East Bay). I'm deeply committed to realizing the promise of an authentic, multiracial democracy, and an empowering, just economy. (And we can't have an authentic democracy without a just economy.) I heard about doughnut economics on the episode of the How to Citizen podcast that had Kate Raworth as a guest.
