After a successful career managing the development of computer systems for major US corporations. I am now enjoying retirement studying and thinking about society's fundamental problems: the environment, climate change, and transportation in future high-rise cities. I am concerned that the focus on electric cars is ignoring the wasteful sprawl, ever-worsening traffic congestion, demand for more roads and bridges, and the environmental impact of building and maintaining more and more heavy infrastructure. I think a better answer to the urban transportation problem is an advanced form of cable transportation: Individual vehicles traveling on cables above the city. I believe: • People will want to use the system because it is faster, safer, and less expensive than owning and driving a car. • Lightweight vehicles will use much less electricity than electric cars. • The cables and towers will be much less expensive to build and maintain than roads and intersections. • We can use more of our cities' surface area for pedestrians, bicycles, shade trees, etc. I have summarized my thoughts in a short YouTube video: https://youtu.be/b-ohqAwo1zU [image.png] [ ] And have described the idea in more detail in my book: https://www.amazon.com/s?k=B086MFN2RP

I have read Kate Rayworth's book Doughnut Economics and found her words to be compelling. I believe that the greatest threat the world faces right now is wealth inequality and the inordinate influences of the one percenters. They have created a world where almost every group pits themselves against one another, assigns blame, marginalized those outside of their group, and stymies the most basic actions. As Hillel said, Don't do to others what you find hateful yourself. If we can but extend dignity to all and show humility, we can implement the concepts of Doughnut Economics. I am 75 years old. He/him/his. I live in Chicago.

Hi, I was previously a Business and Service Designer specialising in Sustainability at an agency in London. I am interested in many things related to sustainability, such as permaculture, social enterprises, urban design and education. I have recently moved to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, where I am working as an English teacher whilst learning about how this city approaches sustainability.

Almost seventy years on the planet and following a career in surveying and IT, I decided to 'retire' by studying a MSc in Sustainability and Adaptation with the Centre for Alternative Technology (CAT) rather for the fun of it after a late-in-life first degree in Astronomy. It's proving to be quite a game-changer. I can follow the 'pure' science and see the urgent peril of the Climate Emergency, the social science of behaviour change is proving more of a challenge. Having little knowledge of economics beyond supply/demand and the mantra of growth I found reading Doughnut Economics, after a visit to Civic Square, quite the eye opener - it may not be perfect, but to me it sounds 'right' (if it looks good, it flies well as they say in the aeronautical world). So here I am, firstly for some understanding to help the dissertation I have to write, and then to use the tools with vague plans to spread the word in my local community. I'm at the start of what looks a fascinating journey.

Hi, I'm a high school physics teacher teaching about climate change, and more importantly, what we can do about it (and ideally, getting students involved, empowered, sparking changes in their community!). My physics background has led me to develop a personal interest in making our buildings healthier and low carbon . In my years reading and learning and acting on climate, I've found that so many issues are systemic, and interrelated (whether it's housing, criminal justice, voting, or education). I've learned about a lot of ideas that have been useful (systems thinking from the Multisolving Institute, engineering design process and Minimum Viable Products from the Lean Startup, civic power from Eric Liu) and doughnut economics seems to tie a lot of great ideas together elegantly and concisely. It's biggest shortcoming to my mind is that it's not a recipe for action, but that's where this action lab and community fit in I suppose. Here's to turning great ideas into action.

I work within Business Development on projects that hopefully help create and amplify a better community and society within the East of England. I am completely disillusioned with the politics within our country. I am deeply saddened that we have left Europe and my heart breaks for our society that no longer seems able to care for its weakest and most vulnerable. I am optimistic however and can see hope. I see goodness, joy and opportunity all around.
