Our Purpose

Our purpose is to contribute to developing an economy that promotes quality of life for all people within the limits of the planet. Such an economy must be designed to distribute resources and power fairly (distributive) and be designed to rebuild nature (regenerative). The Donut Economy Norway network will work to ensure that the donut model becomes a real measuring instrument for Norwegian social development.

Donut Economics Norway is based on the thinking that underlies Doughnut Economics, as formulated by Kate Raworth (2017) and further developed by the Doughnut Economics Action Lab (DEAL).

Smultringøkonomi Norway will work together with change agents and change initiatives throughout Norway who want to put this idea into action. An important task is also to initiate actions that contribute to comprehensive system changes. Inspired by DEAL and other international professional communities, we will also emphasize promoting actions and learning through experimentation. Smultringøkonomi Norway emphasizes being a collaborative organization, inspired by ideas about network organization.

Smoldringøkonomi Norge originated from initiators and organizations that have worked to plan and implement the Smoldringfestivalen in 2022 and 2023. Together, we want to develop an organizational culture where all members have a conscious and united relationship with the purpose, and a culture that promotes empowering and joyful ways of working in your own organization and in collaboration with others.

The purpose shall be achieved by:

• Give a voice to nature and future generations
• Create physical and digital meeting places that bring together various actors (individuals and organizations) with an interest in bringing the ideas from the donut economy into action.
• Contribute to strengthening the local, national and global network.
• Further develop the knowledge base that underpins doughnut economics (theory and practice).
• Conduct events such as courses, meetings and festivals.
• Establish collaboration with and support other organizations and initiatives that want to use the ideas from the donut economy.
• Translate, adapt and disseminate tools, theory and methods developed by the international network DEAL.
• Develop and disseminate own tools and methods adapted to a Norwegian context.
• Participate in the public debate and create engagement and awareness about the donut economy in Norway.
