I have worked in the environmental sector for over 25 years with campaign groups, social enterprises and as a consultant. I’m Director of Community Environment Associates, specialising in work linking global and local issues, and in training and facilitation. I am campaigns officer for Oxford Friends of the Earth, and last year led our work on Fast Forward Oxfordshire which looks at a zero carbon 2040 and how we get there. I was a founder of Community Energy England in 2012 and I’m a director of community interest company Mapping for Change, based at University College London. I’m also a parish councillor in Botley, just west of Oxford.

As a freelance author and business economist, I have been working for decades on ideas and practices of cooperative, solidary economic practices. I advise self-managed housing projects and collective enterprises in questions of organization and financing, whereby the basis is always social interaction, the culture of cooperation. I also write, give lectures and contribute my knowledge and experience into local to global networking contexts. With the economization of the world in which people count less and less I will never agree. This is why I am very critical of some forms of social business, if they serve more greenwashing or top-down philanthrocapitalism than emancipatory self-empowerment. We are getting sicker each day and not solving the root of the problem. So today I host an online learning community that brings together people interested in changing the paradigm of leadership, management and economics for a world that takes care of people and the regeneration of the Earth. I have over 25 years’ experience in social impact and vulnerability and resilience, climate change impact assessment, climate change adaptation and disaster risk reduction and I have worked extensively with national governments, UN agencies, International Financial Institutions, bilateral and multilateral donors, INGOs, NGOs, civil society, faith groups and community groups.  As a senior civil servant I had input into DRR and DRM policy, planning and operations management which has given me insight into the practicalities of DRR and CCA. I have contributed to risk, vulnerability and resilience assessment programs, climate change impact and risk management, policy and program development and implementation.  I have led program development, capacity building and monitoring and evaluation teams in Australia,Mongolia, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Georgia, Armenia, the Dominican Republic, Zimbabwe, Tanzania, Mozambique, Indonesia, Bangla Desh, India, Sri Lanka, Vietnam and Laos.
