Breeze Between Us has published its own reflection on the Global Donut Days 2026 online session with AVIAS in Uganda. For two years, children in the two communities got to know one another through drawings, videos and a shared online folder. They finally met live on screen, with the Korean group gathered at Neutinamu Library.
The connection was far from smooth. The internet faltered and the sound fed back. Yet the children exchanged greetings, admired one another’s drawings, waved and made heart shapes across the screen. Breeze Between Us has written a generous, candid account of the work and uncertainty behind that moment.
We are grateful to the children, artists, facilitators, interpreter and AVIAS team who sustained this exchange. Their story reminds us that a meaningful connection is built over time, in many different ways of speaking and listening. For us, putting Doughnut Economics into practice also means making room for children to participate in their own ways across disability, language and distance.

Below is an abridged English translation of the linked reflection.
Two years ago, Breeze Between Us first met artists from AVIAS in Uganda through Neutinamu Library and Global Donut Day. Their early online conversations were awkward, with language barriers and unreliable connections. The children began getting to know one another by sharing drawings and short videos through a common folder.
The drawings gave the exchange a life of its own. One child painted a portal to Uganda when a visit felt impossibly far away. Other children put their families, imagined places and everyday interests on paper. Their work was later shown at Neutinamu Library and the Nam June Paik Art Center. Yet the children had never met live on screen.
At Global Donut Days 2026, they finally did. The internet faltered and the sound fed back, but the children greeted one another, praised the drawings, waved and made hearts with their arms. The writer remembers the session’s rough edges as true to the patient, imperfect relationship built over two years. When the reflection was written, works by the children were displayed around Neutinamu Library.
