On the 24th of October, in the spirit of Global Donut Days 2026, we (Donut Economics Finland Initiative) took our booth to the Hello Espoo Event, a city-wide event where residents can learn more about the city´s services, organisations and activities.
Through our iteration version of the Quick Participatory Doughnut Mapping Poster (originally designed by DEAL), we had many conversations with fellow citizens about Donut Economics and their perspective on Espoo while sharing some chocolate doughnuts together!
While many mentioned the closeness to nature and the cycling path as great aspects of the city, access to health services, high unemployment as well as issues connected to immigrant integration were criticized. We will continue to analyze our findings and hope to bring them forward to the city of Espoo in the future.
Moreover, this also helped us to gather some local qualitative data on the various dimensions of the doughnut, to eventually construct a local donut portrait.
Further, we were able to spread the word about out Doughnut Walkshop, that we organized the next day! Read about the walkshop in our seperate story! :)
